NOC hosts the first annual NOC/Dagger Freestyle Shootout August 23-24 at the Outfitter's Store Wave on the Nantahala River. With the wave's spectator-friendly surroundings, NOC's on-campus amenities and a hefty $5,000 purse, this event is sure to become one of the Southeast's largest competitions. The Shootout will also boast a unique scoring system designed to encourage exciting big-air moves, so you'll be sure to see some jaw-dropping acrobatics.
Competition Format:
Hole time is limited to two minutes per ride.
Three rides Saturday, August 23rd (Qualifier/Elimination)
Three rides Sunday, August 24th(Finals - top six in each division)
Must have five contestants in each division for prizes.
Two-day event open entry $40.
Maximum 100 contestants.
$5000 Purse (cash and/or prizes) split between all divisions.

- • Walk-up registration will be open at the NOC Outfitter's Store Thursday and Friday (Aug. 21-22) from 4-8 PM, and Saturday (Aug 23) before the event from 7:30-8:30 AM.
- • Each Division must have five contestants to qualify for prizes.
- • Competitor’s entry fee for the open two-day event is $40.
- • A maximum of 100 contestants will be accepted for the competition on Saturday.
- • The top 6 competitors in each division from Saturday’s Qualifying Event will compete for prizes in the Finals Event on Sunday (Max 48 competitors).
Competition will take place at the NOC Wave feature adjacent to the NOC Outfitter Store.

Competition Rules
Competitors are required to be present and ready to paddle at the appointed time of their ride heat (Which will be determined in the competition meeting @ 10:00 AM each day). Competitors that do not meet these requirements will receive a DNF for their competition results. The first Heat will begin at 11:30 AM each day.

Walk-up registration will be open at the Outfitter's Store Thursday and Friday, Aug. 21-22 from 4-8pm, and Saturday before the event from 8-9am.
Event begins each day when the water turns on, between 11 and 11:30am.

Competitors will be scored by a Technical Judge and a Variety Judge.
Women's Expert
•
• The Technical Judge will be scoring points of 1, 2, or 4 for every 180 rotation the competitor completes. The Technical Judge will also be awarding a subjective style score from 1-10 to total the Ride Score. Technical Judge scoring details will be described in the Saturday 10:00 AM competition meeting.
• The best 2 out of the 3 Ride Scores will be added together for each competitor’s Technical Judge Score.
• The Variety Judge will be scoring points based on different freestyle moves within the competitor’s 3 rides. Each move will be scored only once in each direction (left, right, front, back) for the competitor’s three rides. Variety Judge scoring details will be described in the Saturday 10:00 AM competition meeting.
• The Technical Judge Score and the Variety Score will be added together to determine the competitors Grand Total Score.
• Scoring results for the Qualifying Event on Saturday will be announced on Saturday night @ 9:00 PM. Scoring results and prize awards for the Finals Event will be announced on Sunday afternoon @ 5:00PM.

• Competitors will get 3 – 2 minute long rides.
• Competitors are allowed to reenter the feature if they flush out during their rides.
• Competitors will be signaled with 1 horn blast or a whistle when they have 10 seconds left in their ride.
• Competitors will be encouraged to "Go BIG or go home" in the final 10 seconds of their rides.
• Competitors’ rides will end immediately if they flush out of the feature in the final 10 seconds of their ride.
• Competitors will be signaled with 2 horn blasts or whistles when their 2:00 minute ride time is expired. All scoring will cease at this signal.
