1. Ashland Oregon is probably the best place in the world to live if you are a kayaker.....good food....hot chicks.....lots of sunshine, yet plenty of water. I just spent the last 60 days surfing at Gold Ray wave which is probably the best thing going on the west coast. I was on the wave for ONE HOUR at one point. My bracing and rolling are top notch because of this so I should be good to go running the shiznittaly next spring.
2. This waterfall world record is a bunch of BS. Some guy runs a waterfall that was ALREADY RUN several years ago by lucero and the industry foolishly hands him the record (sorry bud, did not bother to remember your name because your record is fake). Yet someone else runs a 120 footer and swims so it does not count. WTF??????....the poiticing in this sport is unparalleled. In every other sport if you drop the distance and live then you have the record. But, we have a bunch of toolbags in the kayaking industry who don't have the balls to run the big stuff yet have the audacity to hande out fake world records.
Yes, I do understand the logic behind the rules. You don't want to have amatures dropping off big stuff. Rules create problems. People going for the record hang on to their paddle and risk ripping their arm out of socket. If a kayaker goes off something say over 80 feet then the paddle should be tossed before impact for OBVIOUS reasons. Throwing the paddle means one has to hand roll in highly aerated water. Very, very difficult to do. By throwing your paddle for safety then you are severely decreasing your chances of rolling at the bottom.
Why should we reward people with world records for using unsafe technique?????!!
Thank you to the kayaking industry for encouraging UNSAFE technique.
