With the rail road tracks on river left the whole way down and a decent sized town within 30 minutes, the Nolichucky doesn't quite have that remote factor to worry about like BSF or Obed areas.
Ocoee has plenty of class 3 rapids packed into a 5 mile section, while the Noli is not are action packed it does have larger / more technical types of rapids then the Ocoee (mainly 1/4 mile), both have great play features too and are more suited for a play boat. BSF is remote, only really 4 rapids of class 3 or higher nature, unless higher water then the canyon has some good waves and surf features. I prefer low water creeky BSF myself, mainly cause when it's up high other stuff is usually running thats better.
Noli starts off with a bang but then slows down to a very laid back paddle out on the lower section. SO if you swim and have a hardtime- after 1/4 and Roostertail you basically got it easy(ier) the rest of the way down...now that is kinda like BSF- after the Ell you only have Asskicker to deal with then it's a nice scenic paddle to the takeout. Still BSF is more like the Obed and Noli more like the Ocoee. |
