In fact, according to their website, it is no longer GAF (Guest Appreciation Festival) at all. It is "Nanty Fest/GAF". According to the registration sheet, NOC is "welcoming their rafting guests like never before." Which means they're moving the flea market to the little parking lot across from the store so they can use the one across the river by the raft rental building for parking. Certainly NOC is under no obligation to sponsor GAF. However, NOC has historically brought in over $100,000 in revenue in one weekend from GAF, and GAF has provided an easy way for them (and everyone else) to get rid of used gear. It sounds like someone in upper management decided "we could make more money if we limit the amount of used stuff everyone else is selling." The flea market is a double edged sword because in some ways it competes with NOC sales, but in other (I think larger) ways it is what draws so many people to GAF in the first place and helps drive the sales volume that NOC enjoys that weekend. I'm guessing they won't make the money they have in the past, and at some point a few years down the road they'll wonder what happened to the easy cash and easy way to dump gear that they used to have. If someone else is smart they'll take this opportunity to introduce an event to replace GAF. I have to say that as a guest, I'm not feeling very appreciated.
