This is a specific class taught in swiftwater rescue classes. The only thing that I might add is that in an actual crisis, i'm betting it wont go as well as in the class.
My suggestion:
After victim is stabalized with the head up (stabalization line under arms with sharp upstream vector, work the snag line to the base of the foot entrapment. Somebody already said clip two lines together with a weighted bag in the middle, good idea. Communicate with the victim to see if they can assist with this process. You may have to do a cinch line to actually pull the entrapment out. Now, this is what you dont hear about in the SWR classes. If a foot is wedged by weight and water pressure, its gonna hurt like a SOB to pull it out. I would expect some major cuts, bruises, and even bone breakage....imagine what the victim is going to be doing while this process is going on. If that foot is caught, its probably gonna be caught good, you may have to pull from multiple angles multiple times! |
