If you read the comments, you'll see I suggested using 76 also. The problem with it is that the guage is something like 8 hours downstream. There is also a lot of watershed downstream of Highway 28 that affects the 76 gauge. Sufficient rain may fall in Cashiers without any rain on Overflow or Fall Creek reulting in a false negative. Likewise, rain may fall downstream of Hwy 28 resulting in a false positive. But, lacking an Internet gauge at Burrells (which is cost prohibitive and environmentally less than desireable), the 76 gauge is better than the predictive method proposed by the USFS. It is publicly available both in real time and years after the fact. It requires no extra work on the part of the USFS, and we can all trust it.
But they need to let us paddle Section 1 also. |
