Re: feedback That's not perfect, but better than the proposed alternative.  Post that on NGTO if you want lively discussion. <NT> Paddleman New

The opposition isn't ready to compromise.

If you read the comments, you'll see I suggested using 76 also.  The problem with it is that the guage is something like 8 hours downstream.  There is also a lot of watershed downstream of Highway 28 that affects the 76 gauge.  Sufficient rain may fall in Cashiers without any rain on Overflow or Fall Creek reulting in a false negative.  Likewise, rain may fall downstream of Hwy 28 resulting in a false positive.  But, lacking an Internet gauge at Burrells (which is cost prohibitive and environmentally less than desireable), the 76 gauge is better than the predictive method proposed by the USFS.  It is publicly available both in real time and years after the fact.  It requires no extra work on the part of the USFS, and we can all trust it.

But they need to let us paddle Section 1 also.

smile So at least you'll have a couple hour lag time to find out if you're arrested selmaraid New
note There are three sattelite gauges along the Yellow River, so I guess they don't cost much, and they are ezwater New
smile The main reason is budget.  The USFS doesn't have $$ to pay for it.  But you could! <NT> Paddleman New
