Wanna hunt some elephant?
Scouting and evaluating the lines, necessary safety, and consequences of running Worser Wesser are the main goals of this class. This is not a 'hot to run it' clinic but an 'all the things to consider' class.
What's the big deal? It's a fast drop with some serious flip consequences, even if it is on the Nantahala!
Who's ready? Boaters confident on the Cheoah, Cascades, Upper Yough, Watauga, and or Tallulah. What to bring? Rope, river-shoes, Elbow pads, a full-face helmet if you can borrow one, a creekboat or river-running kayak, a readiness to make an important personal decision based on guided observations.
What to leave at home? Your ego, your pride, your competitive spirit. It is very likely there will less skilled boaters than yourself running this rapid, but they won't get hurt if you flip.
We will all scout this drop before the water gets to the rapid - searching for jagged rocks and rebar - so we can choose to run and choose what lines based on an intimate knowledge of what we are paddling over.
