Why would one lose their concentration or energy paddling that way? After all, one paddles something that one is in control on, right? That means catching eddies when needed or when wanted

Mind you, much of the stuff I paddle is more continuous than pool-drop in nature, and although there are clear differences, I have yet to see any rating of a longer stretch here go up solely due to the length. A longer class III is not rated as more difficult than a short one. It's just a chain of short ones. IMNSHO to call the longer one class IV only because it's a *longer* class III would defy the logic behind the rating system.
