Ratings aren't for evaluating/measuring/judging your individual performancecapabilities or skills. The purpose of ratings are simple - an attempt to objectively convey the relative difficulty of a river or rapid compared to other rivers/rapids so that OTHERS can have a clue before attempting a certain run. Learn the benchmark mark rapids listed on the AW site and compare unlisted rapids to those to get an idea of where things stand. Sure there will always be disagreements, but if used OBJECTIVELY, it shouldn't be by much more than half class. (except for commercial rafting companies which almost always overrate by one full class)
Sorry for my yelling and rant but Class II is Class II, Class III is Class III, Class IV is Class IV, etc. It doesn't depend on the driver.
