feedback Small crack in kayak. Patching options? New

Hey, my wife bought a blue CFS kayak at GAF this year for a 'great deal' upon assurances (and after a 'thorough' inspection) that the hull was in flawless shape despite the few superficial scrapes. Two days later, after a few runs, she learned that the boat was, indeed, taking on water through a small gash (about 3'' long) in the rear portion of the hull. Unfortunately, after buying the boat and not having the shmuck's personal info, we're stuck with it.

The boat is, otherwise, in very good condition so we'd obviously like to salvage it. For all you experienced kayaking veterans, what are our options (and what is the best option) to repair a gash of this size?

It should be noted that the wife only paddles small water (class 2) at this time and wants to graduate, in time, up to a max of class 3 water. (In other words, the repair doesn't necessarily have to be able to navigate Gorilla anytime soon). Please let me know-
