You will be about an hour from most of the runs in the Triangle.

The Haw River is about an hour to the southeast of Burlington.  The toughest section of that is a class II-III run.  It has some great play waves in a couple of spots.  It runs a lot in the winter and spring but dries up most of the summer and fall unless a tropical system comes through like last month.

When Falls Lake releases there is a nice playspot at Falls on the Neuse about an hour to the east.

Most of the runs around the triangle are more play than creek.  I've heard that the Little near Durham is a good creek run but it is short and runs so infrequently that I have yet to catch it.

Wilson Creek is about 3 hours west of Burlington.  There are supposed to be a lot of different creek runs out that way but I haven't run any of them - hope to start running some of them this winter and spring .  They would all be good weekend targets, though.

The Carolina Canoe Club is really active in the area so it is usually pretty easy to find people to boat with.
