Last winter a guidebook came out for the Boulder Fields of Rumbling Bald. It is an excellent guidebook for a world class Bouldering Area. If you like Climbing Check it out. IF not then read on.
In the book they list a thousand climbs and for each one they give the difficulty rating and the quality rating. For quality they listed 0-3 stars. I think this is pretty cool idea. actually come to think of it, Dennis squires gave star ratings to the runs he listed in his New York state whitewater guides, though he used a 5 star rating system. (john's Brook is 5 star, Bottom Moose gets 4).
I like the quality ratings. I like three star better cause we already use one to five for difficulty.
So this thread is about rating rivers on a Three Star Scale. Make a list of Runs and give them a rating of 0-3 (you can use half stars.) Try to consider Criteria such as Scenery, Water Quality, Rapid Quality, What it takes to run, Dams and Natural Flow, Access, roadsideness and remoteness, Bang for your buck, etc. Obviously this is highly subjective and some of the criteria I listed could be seen either way. It's based on opinions but I believe we will see some consensus.
Since I live in the Southeast I use NC Rivers and Creeks as my bible. (props to Leland.) So let's rate some rivers.
Leland, let's hear some ratings for the runs in your book. I am curious to hear your thoughts. This is just for Fun so Everyone should participate in this.
Good Lines all and Safety First.
