So I haven't been on the BoaterTalk Forum since it started and I am trying to figure out why there are so many negative slams and comments? Is it that there is no rain in the Southeast and people are touchy?
Here are maybe a few things people want to consider before jumping over someone else in our boating community:
1) People have different senses of humor, taste in music, styles of boating etc. We must learn to accept each other and learn to as one person put it "agree to disagree". Canoeing doesn't suck, neither does rafting, this is BOATERTALK no KAYAKERTALK.
2) When talking about a situation, consider that is you weren't there, maybe you don't have all the facts and shouldn't be making a snap judgement. I saw a post about a rafter pointing at a swimming kayaker on the Cheoh then floating away. Well I've been in that situation both as a rafter and as a kayaker. As a rafter, its hard to save a kayaker when you are already in the current going downstream, as a kayaker, the first thing I was taught was we need to learn to self rescue. Don't depend on a rafter, openboater, etc. to pick up your yard sale.
3) Have you ever made a spelling mistake, done something silly without thinking it through, made any mistake?? I am sure the answer is yes. Let's not be so harsh on each other!!
4) There are lots of things in the world that are offensive, if you complain about everything you find offensive, you are probably harboring a lot of negative energy which isn't very good for you. Take a breath, count to 10, and try ignore it. I sit next to a guy who chews ice all day, its annoying, but instead of whinning about it, I put on my iPod and chill.
I just think this forum has a lot of potential to help new boaters out and get people who need paddling buddies, rides, gear, or advice what they want. Keep it positive people. I am not some overly happy person, but I hate to see people being overly critical.
