The Ammo is a great boat and makes class II/III almost boring, but I grew tired of the corky feel and slow speed and am now looking for a low volume long boat like the Remix or even the playful Z:ONE. I learned to kayak in an RPM and really miss having access to the entire river - attainments, left bank, right bank, go back and catch those waves, etc. The shorter boats don't allow second chances to catch waves (when no eddy) and take considerable effort to work the entire width of the river, at least for me with my small arms. I demo'd a Remix 59 at NOC and it seemed tippy at first, but enjoyed gliding from eddy to eddy to eddy with little effort.
I would get the boat that you feel the most confident in and keeps you pushing your limits - sounds like the Ammo will accelerate your progress. If you're not comfortable with your boat, you won't paddle. |
