The traditional Black River release for paddlers traveling to Moose Fest is scheduled for noon to 2 pm on Friday, October 17.
The Black is a class 3-4 play river in Watertown, NY--about 90 minutes west of the Moose Fest epicenter in Old Forge. Boaters can choose between park-and-play sessions at the Black's two roadside features or running the 7-mile long Gorge section.
No release is required for the park-and-play. The dam is located at the midpoint of the Gorge section--just above the 15-foot Glen Park Falls. During the release, water will be allowed to spill over the dam between noon and 2 pm allowing flows through the river below.
The release is scheduled to end at 2 pm to allow paddlers ample time to travel to Old Forge in time for Happy Hour specials. |
