They are not all that way.  I do not know how the hulls are made, but there is a seam going completely around the boat (parrallel to the ground) that appears to join the top and bottom of the hull; maybe it is where the molds fit together.  Some boats do not have a sharp edge at that seam and some do.  I took a dremmel tool with a small sanding wheel and smoothed the edge down, then wetsanded it with 220, then 400- no more cut thrumbs.
