I hate my Motion top and don't want another one, even if it is free. I'll write NRS though and tell them what a piece of crap I think it is and see if they'll offer me credit to something else. At least maybe as you say they can try to improve it. In regards to washing... from what I've read in the care for high quality laminates, you need to wash them to maintain performance ... breathability at least. Otherwise, I've read body oils will start to impair performance. I've been washing 2 and 3 layer laminates for at least 15 yrs and do not suspect that the washing did anything to prematurely age the garment before I wore it out from actual use on the mountain / river. Gore and other mfg I think encourage washing if done properly. My machine has been a front loader for 6 yrs. It's awesome for washing outdoor gear. Can even wash my sleeping bags in it. I wash laminates in either Nikwax Techwash or powdered Tide on gentle cycle in the front loader and hang to dry. If I'm doing DWR treatment I'll use a blow dryer to carefully heat treat the fabric only.
