I personaly hate golf, but it is an annalogy I have used for years to shed light on folks who try to believe that one boat can do it all. I have read a number of posts lately on one boat, two boat, best boat for this and that, but it boils down to the above mentioned statement.
There are dozens of kayaks on the market that will do everything ok, but none will do 'everything' Awsome. I know many cross over sports such as skiing that people drop hundreds of dollars a season on new sticks for groomers, hardpack, powder, etc. My question is, why has the paddling community not come to terms with the same notion?
I know most paddlers who are out more then a few times a season have a river runner or playboat and most likely a creeker. But don't leave out the low flow creeker, surf spacific kayaks, boats for hole play, wave play, river play, down river, expadition, etc.
That way you are sure to have the right club for what hole you are playing at the time. Don't settle on 'one boat' settle on 'what boat' will be best for what you want to do at the present time. Paddle as many boats as you can to see what fits and feels best for you, not just what the hottest seller of the season is. More importantly, just go paddle.
This post was in response to a bunch of recent emails I have recieved, and a few posts I read in weeks past.
Just my 2 cents and with the recent spike in the Euro, is not even worth 2 cents any more.
