Can't recall where I read it though ... I do remember a number of scenarios to try;
- Extend paddle when flipped to grab green water or try grabbing green water while upright (deeper behind pile)
- Paddle to side and out of hole using downstream strokes
- Purposely flip and extend paddle downstream to catch outflow, wait to feel movement out of the hole before rolling up
- Cartwheel your way to the edge of the hole and catch green water there
- Ender out, backwards or front ender
- Sweep stroke/low brace towards edge of hole and try to hit green water there. Sweep stroke high brace to move towards edge
- Front blast the pourover and edge to corner of hole. Front blast into cartwheels to edge
- Charge the hole and front blast with a rudder to rudder you to the edge
- Back blast and work towards edge or Back blast into cartwheels towards edge
- Have buddy throw you a rope while blasting in a stable position
- Intentional skirt implosion to fill up with water and then sub out deeper in the green water (never tried this)
- Swim for it. Haha. Then there's the swiming out of a hole techniques ... balling up, etc. etc.
I'm a below average class 3 paddler and have used about all of the above except for the skirt implosion technique.
