We spent 3 weeks in DRC in July filming a show for the National Geographic Channel.  The 1.3 million cfs whitewater was spectacular and scary and really cool all at the same time, with whirlpools being the main hazard.  We did, as far as anyone knows, the first successful descent of the Congo from Kinshasa to Luozi, the last takeout before Inga Falls.  And before you start dreaming, Inga is almost certainly unrunable!  It would require you to make ferries across the river in water so chaotic you have absolutely no control of your destiny.

The problem with DRC is that there is absolutely no way that you would be able to pull off an expedition there without government support.  We were held up at gunpoint by 8 super sketchy "soldiers" and the only thing that kept us from being marched to their jungle camp was a document provided to us by government officials.  The place was super sketchy in July, and I can only imagine what it's like now.

That said, I have GPS data for the 80 mile section we did if anyone happens to find themselves paddling there.

The show will air on the National Geographic Channel in January, and I'm sure we'll make sure to post on BT when the exact date and time is announced.

Cheers!
