Re: question How does Tropos compare Gore-tex in the meridian drysuit? <NT> Skinny New

Tropos - nylon coated with a waterproof/breathable coating
GoreTex - 3-layer material. the Gore membrane is sandwiched between a nylon inner & outer layer

Tropos - metal tooth watersports zipper, rated for surface immersion
Gore-Tex - Optiseal metal-tooth waterproof zipper, rated to about 10' if I remember correctly

Tropos - 2-year limited warranty
Gore-Tex - lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship

I've owned both types (currently have a Tropos Super Nova w/ neoprene neck gasket), and notice a big difference in the breathability between Tropos and Gore-Tex. My Gore suits I was still completely dry at the end of paddling. In my Tropos suit (which I've only been using for flatwater workouts), the entire inside of suit has a layer of moisture, and my layers are also wet. So if you don't sweat a lot, or are using it late fall to early spring, the Tropos is alright, but otherwise the Gore is more than worth it.

my highly biased two cents,
Brian
