I am here today because of a full face helmet.
I let my guard down and flipped on a class II wavetrain on the LRC. I flipped, started to tuck, and saw my face smash into the corner of a rock. I came up to seeing stars, a bloody lip, and chunks of steel missing from the metal cage right under my left eye.
From looking at the extent of damage to the mask and location, without question that impact undoubtably would have knocked me unconscious, broken my left check, broken my left jaw, blinded me in my left eye. Then in a remote canyon, the rest of the group would have been suddenly thrown into a situation of trying to save my life. Had I survived that, I am also certain the way out would have been a helicopoter followed by lots of facical reconstrive surgery.
Yeah, maybe they are overkill or look dorky, but its safe to say my full face saved me. Well worth the $100 insurance investment.
