That's me. Dan was kind enough to introduce me and his his mom (my wife of 43+ years) to West Virginia and the New and Gauley Rivers. We moved to the Summersville area when we retired, shortly after Dan moved to Steamboat Springs.
I am also the webmaster for the Carolina Canoe Club, West Virginia Wildwater Association and USAWildwater. In those capacities, I often get emails asking about the gauges, levels and flows in the New and Gauley watersheds. I created a couple of pages/documents that might be of interest to paddlers:
www.wvwa.net/cgi-bin/nrg.pl - this shows the current data from the USGS and Huntington Army Corps of Engineers websites for Hinton and Thurmond with a conversion for each to Fayette Station in feet. I find this useful because it shows the approxiate level at FS now and in about 12 hours (the time that it takes the water to get from Hinton to FS.
www.thebrabecs.com/Gauges_101_Gauley.htm - this document is my attempt to describe how to interpret the relevant gauges in the Gauley watershed to try to guess what the flow will be in the Gauley below Summersville Dam.
www.thebrabecs.com/Gauges_101_New.htm - this document is my attempt to describe how to interpret the relevant gauges in the New watershed and to try to guess what the flow will be on the New in West Virginia.
I will entertain any comments on any of the above pages/documents.
