... the time and effort it took to hone his skills to the point he could make these praised pieces of "art". But, as an "artist" myself, charging someone for that knowledge is pure asinine.
Once the skill is developed to the point that the masses view it as "perfection", effort is no longer applied. The art that I make may have taken me years to learn, but now I can crack out pieces in mere HOURS that would have taken me WEEKS in the past.
I'm quite sure that Jimmy is the same. He can crack out one of these "masterpieces" with very little effort as opposed to his earlier attempts... that is the nature of art.
I'm not denying the man mad-props for his sincere effort to elevate the sport of Kayaking to a new level... but... when the newbies start showing up that can crack out something near as good for less than half the price... it's time to reconsider pricing.
