You still do not get the point. Yes, Jim can make the paddles quicker than when he first started, but he also makes them *better*. The constuction technique, the choosing of the wood, balancing of the constuction. The time involved is also very extensive, even if it is quicker than in the past. I personally think Jim and Keith do not charge enough considering the labor that goes into one of these paddles. Also, there is a big different between art and functional art.

This comment of yours shows that you do not know how much real effort goes into each custom paddle. Now this comment would apply to some of the other "mass" produced wood paddles, such as Mitchell (sp?) and some of the others that slip my mind. I have owned some of those and I will never buy one agains.
Do a search for Backlund and look at the posts I made with respect to paddle building classes with Keith (three posts) and you will get some idea of what kind of effort it takes.
