...you obviously haven't a clue either.  Jimi does not paddles EVERY SINGLE DAY OF HIS LIFE - in fact I'll bet he paddles less than you or I do.  Building paddles and prototyping, re-prototyping, plug-making and mould-making for his boat designs takes up most of his time - the rest is taken up with his family.  When last I discussed it with him, he was boating maybe one or two full days per month.

Like it or not, paddles are Jim's main gig, and he charges what they are worth.  If you don't like it, fine, but don't go and try to justify someone ripping him off by citing his high prices.  WV isn't his only market, so your "po mountain folk" argument doesn't wash either.  I know several ordinary  West Virginians who own Jimistyx - they paid his price because they know that the paddles are without equal, and worth every penny.  I'm Canadian - think what that $500 translates to in Hudson Bay Pesos, throw in shipping and duty, and that argument rings pretty hollow.

It always slays me when I hear someone bitch about the high price of a Jimistick, when there are composite paddles out there that fetch almost as much and deliver nothing close to the feel, craftsmanship and beauty of one of his paddles.  It's absolutely laughable that a company that puts maybe $40 worth of materials into a press, waits 10 minutes, has some shmoe stick the result on a pre-made shaft, can then turn around and stick some dumbass in the keester (monetarily speaking) who's bought into the "innovative-cutting edge design-aerospace materials-you should be honoured to have the privilege" advertizing line of BS.

When you buy a Jimistick, you're paying $500 for the finest wood available, years of experience, and hours of sweat and work in a shop spent crafting a paddle that will be a  unique creation...YOURS ALONE!  Worth every penny and then some.

Cheers, Scott
