I've only been boating since, oh, Feb or so and I've NEVER been able to roll until today. I've been taught and tutored, and just couldn't get the boat over. I'd get it MOST of the way, and then bloop... back over I go.
I discovered something today. I went out on my own, to a nice flat section and told myself that I WOULD get this. Jumped in, flipped over and *BAM* ... banged that roll out.
I found something out. I was hip snapping right, but that was all I was doing. Set up, rip the paddle and hip snap... couldn't figure out why the boat wasn't coming over.
The thing I discovered was to NOT release from the hip snap until the boat is all the way over. Snap and HOLD that position. Keep the muscles tight and the boat will complete the motion and settle all nice.
As well, don't be afraid to use the paddle as a "leaning post"... once you are on top of the water, lean HARD on the paddle and try to pull the boat UNDER your body instead of trying to sit up.
I dunno.... I'm just a newbie, but hey, I got my roll today!
