If you train yourself to be calm while underwater, being in the water can *help* your breath-holding time, because it removes the temptation to jest take a gulp of air.

I've curled up in a ball in the pool while a bud held a stopwatch. If IIRC, I wuz under for 2 minuets, which I think is perty danged good. That was 15+ years ago; I doubt that I could do that today.

Well...how'bout that: I jest did 2:45, which might be a personal record. I wasn't in any distress 'til well ova a minuet; even past 1:45, it was quite manageable. Andyhoo, I don't think that's toooo bad for a 46-year-old pharte.

By the BTW, I had a book in hand, and was studiously reading it. It *does* help to take yer mind off the fact that yer not drawing breath.
