Sunday, on the way back from WV, I was pumping gas somewhere off I-64 near Winchester, KY.. An elderly gentleman wearing overalls and a flannel shirt came up and pointed to the two boats on top (BigEZ and a Skip).

"What kinda boats you got there?" he asked.

"Kayaks. Whitewater kayaks." I replied.

"No, those aren't kayaks. I ain't ever seen anything like that before". He sounded perturbed.

"Honestly mister, they're kayaks!" I proceeded to explain to him how the flat bottom and short length worked for whitewater.

"First time I ever seen boats like that", he repeated.

He grinned, shook his head, then walked away.
