You mean the hole at the bottom of the final step? People go to the left of that? I never did, never thought to do it. Never got held, just a little backender on occasion. I do remember rolling once, at the bottom.

The way to "go left" which intrigued me was to run the sneak, prior to the twist where you can break your nose (bonked mine once). Would like to try that sneak in open boat to save bailing.
