However, I know for a fact that if you do the "rodeo roll" that you're talking about that was originally called the backdeck roll then you're way exposed. I've hit some rocks really hard on my life jacket and my helm and if I would have been laying back and doing a back deck roll then I would have gotten beat alive. Whether you're rolling up on the front or the back cover the face. EJ is a stud and knows when it's safe to expose the face.
I've seen many class 3/4 boaters roll on the back deck while totally exposing themselves. It's sketchy as hell to watch a boater with a questionable roll laying back and waiting to get their face hit.
