And it's sketchy as hell. My roll is 100% bomber and I've yet to get hit in the face after 10 years of boating. It's easy for good boaters to sit around and point fingers at boaters that are having a hard time rolling. It's also easier for some people to roll up on the back deck since they lack the flexibility to finish on the front deck as well as the abdominal strength to do so.

When I ran Caveman yesterday on Raven I dropped throught he first drop and went to push off the wall that the previous two boaters did. When i pushed off the wall I flipped upstream and got sucked back up-stream into a whirlpool/boiling current/thingy. I was tucked forward when it happen. Underwater I got pushed under the wall and at one point in time had my head underneath the wall while upside down. I managed to get set on the upstream side and could feel my boat turning in the whirlpool. After 10+ seconds I felt the boat start to turn again and rolled up. My paddle was still under the wall. It was the hardest roll I've ever done. I had to put my head against my front deck and roll up in order to get up. If I was laying back I would have hit my face on that rock. Also, I'm not sure if it would have worked since the whole reason I flipped was my back edge got cought in the current that was pushing against the wall. If I would have leaned back i would have exposed that edge again and gone right back over.

I really didnt' want to have to swim the last 3 drops in caveman. Who knows if I would have been here in the condition that I am today if I wouldn't have managed to roll back up and put in the 20 strokes that it took for me to climb out of the shitty spot that I was in. Turn on the LVM/IR 2003 Greatest hits that just came out. After Tommy's Top Ten is some footage of Caveman. You'll see.
