However, people paddle the UY in all kinds of boats. You should probably take whatever boat you know you can make the moves in. Playboats tend to get backendered in a lot of spots there, but if you're not used to paddling creekboats or larger river runners, it might worse if you blow a lot of ferries and miss a lot of eddies because you're not used to paddling the boat. In my opinion (and that's all it is), a person needs to be solid on Class IV with a bomber roll - in whatever boat they're planning to take - and should have a knowledgeable guide for their first run on the UY. Then you will have fun rather than getting worked all over the place.
