We watch a Hollywood production, and that is what it was, and lo and behold we are influenced by a spin doctors spin. It was not even close to being a documentary, no more than The Blair Witch Hunt.
All his contentions were thin at best. How many WWII mothers do you think would have felt the same shock and grief that our current war mothers' feel? The poor fighting a rich man's war, we have a volunteer army. Soldier's disillusioned? Of course some are, but reenlistment is at all time highs right now. Killing the poor Iraqui's? So far we have freed 50 Million people from totalitarian regime's that were represive (I know, why not go after North Korea or an Iran if that was our goal.) A war for oil. Now that is probaly true, but heck we are a petroleum based society. Everythng from our synthetics to our boats is dependent on oil and the general welfare of our elevated standard of living is hinged on it. Oil got us into WWII, Japan's attack was based on our Oil Embargo, and there will be more blood for Oil before we move to a non petroleum based society). Saudi Arabi is no doubt not a true ally. But keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.
Now I know that GW has totally mismanaged this war. But freedom is never free. And no Iraq was a minimal at best risk to our freedom. Don't count on the UN to solve our problems, because they surely won't. Many European's, the French in particular, had billions invested in Iraq and it's oil. They are not morally repulsed by us, the are financially emotional about our invasion of Iraq and what it will do to their investment. We as a country should never be ashamed to be who and what we are. For almost a 100 years we have minimized the amount of injustices in the world. We are by no means perfect, but every free country in the world lives under the veil of freedom we provide. The Middle East would be under Russian control and Europe under German rule it it weren't for the sacrifice of the Greatest Generation. If a war on terroism is to be won, our presence, for good or ill, is mandatory in the Middle East. Draw your own conclusion, and please don't let MM do it for you. Just look for the issues and research it. MM is not looking out for us, he is now more credible than Rush or Bill O'Reilly, except that his viewpoint is total and utter socialism. |
