He is talking about making his upper wrist be happy on a left hand stroke. Additionally, he talks about optimizing for a "pushing" surface on the top hand.
Jimi clearly paddles with a right-hand dominant style, and pushes with his top hand. hey...wish I paddled half as well as Jimi. But I know that many experienced instructors teach a style to pull with the working hand and torso, not push with the top hand. And that is clearly how I paddle.
It seems to me like a mathematical truth that 0 degree spreads the amount of top hand rotation evenly, therefore minimizing the amount of rotation required by any given hand and encourages the most balanced stroke. Which seems like a good thing for me.
However, I think it could be said that there is not a thing wrong with right hand dominance if you're right handed, and maybe trying to force even-handedness is just going against the natural way of things. |
