idea Ideas sought for a stick or painted gauge on the Green Narrows New

As per Clay's post earlier today, I got to thinking and am game for getting a gauge program going down there.

I'm thinking either a USGS style stick gauge like the $36 'Model A' shown here:

http://www.rickly.com/sm/staffgages.htm

or just painting directly onto rock.

Where to put it, and which method, or even to do it at all... I'd be interested in some input.  I can find some victims to help.

It should be below the Big Hungry confluence, and I'd rather see it before paddling the run than at Fishtop, so I'm figuring on some big vertical wall action on the left above Bride would be a good place, and unlikely to get messed with.  I'm gonna look next time I'm in there, but I think there's some slackwater in there with a good wall.

Fastening/painting details to be worked out.

This is just an idea, but if it happens I would like to do it sometime this summer or early fall.

So, then... Yays? Nays? Ideas?  Bring 'em if you got 'em, email or post.

more well, you were on my victim list.  points taken.  fastening a post to the gauge rock will require "bigger tools".... <NT> farmschooler New

smile 1.) I fear vandalism at Fishtop, 2.) I'm too lazy to check there, 3.) After the drive/hike, 'yer gonna run it anyway... farmschooler New

gack Not sure its all that necessary, but I wouldn't install anything w/o checking w/ the land manager. tcookson New
note first, it's ammusing you wait for the first contrary opinion to post yours? Yall_Watch_This New
note I was working.  Some of us have better things to do than sit around and "time" our responses (at least some of the time) tcookson New
note Nah - just be discreet, make it look official.   Why worry the landowner? ClayW New
