Horsepasture aint THAT hard.

Nothing on there like Gorilla.
Some Trailhead boogie with major penalty points for sure.  5 huge rapids, 2 of which are actually difficult. (Corner Pocket and Exit B).

Highway to heaven, stairstep, & Exit A are pretty straightforward.

The last rapid is an honorable walk.  Not much of a clean line, and some hazards.  Fun seal launch on the right though.

Good prep would be lower WP till you are comfortable, which is harder, but will dial in the boogie for you, then you will be ready for the hard part, which is the boogie with consequences.  Maybe even a tri down Upper WP to get a sense of big quality ful contact boogie that you will see a little bit of.  The boogie rapids are steeper and tighter than Linville main rapids, with as much overall consequence.

A note on "ugly stuff":  Might want to take a look at the must make move involved before blindly shadowing someone through.  To go right early could be the end.  Better line on the right at higher water.

The hike:

It aint that bad.  We did it in an hour and a half.  If you want the best advice I can give you on hike outs(I tell people everytime, but they don't listen, then 2/3 of the way up they are puking and I am cruising):

Go slow!  If you feel like going slow is making it harder, then you haven't shortened your step.  Small steps and slow speed will get you to the top everytime.  Alot of people bitch about the Horsepasture hikeout, but they just need a lesson in pace.

Horsepasture is one of the gnarliest runs in the east, so just go with a group you know and trust, and follow your brain, not your balls.  Its class 5-5+ for real(considering most of the rapids on the Green are class 4-4+.
