	Most airlines have a deal called a baggage embargo during the Christmas season, especially to South America/Central America. When we went to Ecuador we had to scramble to fit everything in carryon since they limited the checked/carryons but failed to inform us. Small print. There is really nothing you can do if the airline has the embargo for where you are flying. Call and ask about these restrictions. If they don't have one, then I would agree, just show up and say it's a wind-surfer or surf boat.
