Just wanted to send out a heads up on the upper valley creeking races. Should be good fun again this year. Come check it out to race or watch.

3rd Annual DOWNTOWN SMACKDOWN & WELLS RIVER RUMBLE
SAT. APRIL 8      &      SUN. APRIL 9

DOWNTOWN SMACK DOWN: Sat. 4/8/06, this year the smackdown is going to be a little more laid back, we'll paddle the race release after the Mascoma Slalom finishes  up upstream (4pm or so) and if anyone wants to race awesome, if not, no worries- Downtown Section of the Mascoma R., Lebanon, NH. The section is 300 yards through pushy, continuous class 4-5. Expected release: 700 cfs. Participants park in the municipal lot at the put-in behind Mascoma Bank (just off Rte 4 at the green). No entry fee.

WELLS RIVER RUMBLE: Sun. 4/9/06, THIS IS THE REAL DEAL.  
competitor's meeting 12:30pm - Lower Wells River, VT. Mass start rapid-by-rapid sprints and full-length downriver race. Plus a 3-person team race. The race course is 1 mile of class 4-5 pool-drop rapids and ledges (up to 14ft). USGS records indicate guaranteed water. Participants park at the Fish and Game area off Rte 302 VT, 1.5 miles east of the Exit 17 off I-91.  $10 entry fee gets you a t-shirt and a shot at the prizes.

DISCLAIMER: These races are a "common adventure" type enterprise, just an informal gathering of local paddlers. If you can safely paddle class 4-5 and would like to join in you may. No one is going to hold your hand and everyone is solely responsible for their own decisions.
