... no matter what it is. That helps create a balance. My wife (of 14 years) paddles very little, but she is an avid sailboat racer. It is her passion, as kayaking is for me. We both indulge our respective passions whenever possible, while still being thoughtful of each other and the other things we need to do in our lives, whether together or separately. It also helps create a balance with taking care of children, pets, and the home. She'll go race one weekend and I'll hang with the kids and animals, and likely the next weekend I'll go paddle and she'll handle the home front. As the kids get older and don't need (or want) us around we will be able to enjoy our own and each other's passions together more often, but for now it's as close to perfect as it can get. I gladly give up a high water weekend here or there to allow the arrangement to work as smoothly as it does (or occasionally I'll get my dad to watch the kids and go anyway).
