Two weeks later, I felt really guilty, and asked the guy (Steve was his name) if he could possibly sell me one of the rackets in his basement.
I figured if he would sell it to me for cheap, I would give him the money and not take another one. If he was too expensive, I would say screw it and live with the guilt. Honestly, that was my thinking.
He smiled, walked me downstairs, and told me to take my pick. Then he made me a snowcone.
I needless to say never took the second one, and felt even more like a piece of shit after he treated me so nice.
Made me feel like less of a thief though.
20 years ago almost, I still think about that. |
