One of the outcomes of the studies on why asthma is increasing is that kids aren't exposed to enough "foreign antigens" to help their immune systems learn the ropes. You need to expose (mothers will all cringe at this, but it's true) to enough forms of bad stuff so the kid's immune system has enough stuff to work on. Dogs, and cats, and other pets are great sources for these foreign proteins, but you need a number of sources (the more, the merrier). So give the doggies a home and chalk it up to anti-asthma protection for the kid. |
