In order to have effective use of a cruise-missle capable destroyer on a carrier... you first must get it in range. Even still, the statement makes the assumption of a destoyer on carrier confrontation. What about the other dozen U.S. destoyers escorting the carrier? Not to mention the dozens of other support vessels creating a literal halo around the carrier; all with anti-missle defense systems you have to get through. It would be a really tough shot to make to hit a carrier through all of the defenses even if you could get the shot off... which you won't cause there's no way in hell any non-U.S. warship is getting any where near it. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the 90 fighter jets that will be flying around looking for threatening targets to strike... and the submarines...and the military satellites... When China spends another 3 or 4 trillion dollars in its military, then you may start to get worried. |
