For example, a couple weeks ago I was in New England. I'd never been to New England before, even though I had visited 40+ states.
So, considering I spent a lot of time in my car, listening to local radio stations is one way to get a feel for a completely different region.
It's not like I'm saying its the only or best way to get to know a place, but if you pay attention, you can learn a lot about a region based on things like what the djs talk about and what the local advertising is.
