I reposted this PDF I got off of a motorcycle travel site on my website. It has some great info on SA travel - including the documentation needed to cross borders-

Basicaly it says that if traveling on an Americam passport all required visas are available at the border. The whole PDF is worth a read as it contains some great food for thought.
