	Do we want more bikers on trails? I'm turning into a curmudgeon, and have been holding back on telling people my choice spots, lately. I wasn't sure that the OP was really interested in trail riding. For people who are unsure, I recommend that they try some rentals, and maybe even a group ride to learn the basics. I know all about slipped pedals... I used beartraps for one cyclocross. Lots of blood was shed, not all of it mine. It did clear people away from me, though. You are absolutely right, that the flat will occur in a torrential downpour. In the area/season when mosquitos and blackflies are at their worst. (and you will drop your car or house keys and have to come back for them)
