Sell them what they want, not what you want.

I know all about trails and gravity.  My best estimate is that I have ridden 25000-30000 miles of trails in my biking days.  Enough to circle the globe.
I also know about riding DH.  I've raced DH in colorado, california, new mexico, Arkansas.  I ride a Foes 6 inch travel bike.

She wants to do an occasional trail and mostly road.  Let her second bike be a full susser, disk brake, 2.4 inch tired fun machine.

Remember, we are giving advise for a first bike for a beginner, not for you or me.
