Great trip, great levels, great weather, but the best part of the trip for me was finally meeting you. New

I've always enjoyed our exchanges here even when we've vehemently disagreed. I had a hunch you'd be a great boating partner as well, and I wasn't disappointed. You and your very pleasant wife were a joy to have along. Those female pilots from Team Tarkio weren't a bad addition to the scenery either!
Sorry about bogarting the eddy line doing a tail dance at Velvet, it was totally unintentional on my part, and I apologize for blundering us into Pistol Creek without the usual tactical briefing, but hey, everybody ran it on line and right-side up!
For those of you familiar with the Middle Fork, the rapid Albert mentioned trying the massive hole on the last day was RUBBER RAPID, arguably the big dog of the Middle Fork! That shows you what kind of cajones the guy has.
Oh, and one little point of clarification, Dusty and my duet on dueling banjos was sans a banjo at all. Dusty was playing a mandolin, and he absolutely ROCKED on it!
I love the Middle Fork. If it's true that your home is where your heart is then no matter where my house is, my home is the Middle Fork. It's changing though. With the fires on the upper reach last summer the terrain is far more open and some of the stately alpine fir and spruce forests are gone for the duration of my lifetime. I also mourn the destruction of the historic buildings at the White Goat Mine at Powerhouse Rapid including the rock crusher whose water wheel had hung askew over the river since I can remember doing the river and has mysteriously completely disappeared right down to the metal parts. The new Lake Creek Rapid is still re-forming and re-channeling and the new channel funneling to a hole at the bottom of the rapid is even more of a threat to flip a raft than in the past. |
