the guy was using a front end loader as a weapon, and innocent people were being hurt.  I would expect law enforcement anywhere to take some pretty drastic action in a case like this, even if there wasn't the fact of a low-grade war between Israel and Palestinians.

That there is... is a whole different issue- and it's something I can't see my way to assigning blame to just one side.  This really is a situation in which both sides are ongoingly perpetuating their own disaster.
