How many think little wesser on the nantahala is a class 3?
I've paddle a lot of class 4 rapids that are easier.
If it wasn't for the hole at the top it would be a class 3.
Was wondering if anyone else thinks it's a hard rapid in a kayak.

anything a kid can take a duckie down is NOT class IV
DangerJudy
New
It's harder than these
snacker55
New
"kid in a duckie" refers to the fat kids from church groups not paddlers

Nanty is a bit anomolous. With few exceptions, the level doesn't change much

I agree....but I don't run them at the higher levels.

You are talking about the lesser weeser aren't you?

Big Wesser is kind of benchmark class IV- /IV to me. Multiple moves in heavy water.

I think Double Trouble is a notch above Little Wesser.

really? I think DT is a lot harder to mess up the line than LW

DangerJudy

Double Trouble is quite a bit "bigger" than Wesser. Here we go with the definition..............

With Bull Sluice the "cross currents" criterion comes into play.

It was a class IV in 1977 the first time I ran it in a 15' Blue Hole canoe.

With inner tubes as floatation. Those were the days. Camp anywhere free.

I think calling it a class 3 is pushing it. class 3 is a named rapid on the ocoee

Personally I would call it a II+/III- but as DJ points out, AW calls it a benchmark III.
GRITS

Good thoughts, but read the definition of class 2 as if you never read it before, and then think hard about it.
ezwater
New
That's why I pointed out the AW rating, but I do have a problem with some ratings.
GRITS
New
Try and picture in your mind what it would be like to come through Lesser Wesser if you had never run it before, never
ezwater
New
Haven't run the Tellico. As for ratings, either you use AW or you don't.
GRITS
New
PS for something more objective than my personal opinion, try on these stats for size.
GRITS

You haven't run the Tellico? OMG - You need to get your hind end over there next time it rains!!!...
Pinecricker
New
Yeah, I'm sure I'd like it but it's at least 3 hours away, and if Tellico is running...
GRITS
New
Hayulll; I'd drive from Winston-Salem if I knew the Tellico would run all weekend.
